try using a USB device that does not require any external power or anything higher than the standard voltage / amperage (0.5A) - if you use one that requires external power, make sure to connect it to its power source;
plug the USB drive directly - DO NOT use a hub or extension / cables;
have the USB drive formatted to FAT32.
I've also seen some TV models that have multiple USB ports as well - and sometimes video playback only works from one of them.

In your case, looking at your particular model's owners manual there is no mention at all of video playback on the USB port, only Music and Pictures... as a matter of fact I did not find any mention about DivX on the manual at all - so your model most likely is not DivX Certified.
