How do I rip DVD to Roku 4?
Take my DVD collection and convert it into a digital format I can store on my Roku 4, then play that media from my Roku 4, through the plex server on my PC, outputting to TV on my home theater. But I want this to be 100% lossless, exactly as if I were popping the DVD into its player. Is this possible?
Roku 4 is just great if you're buying your first streaming box. Officially, Roku 4 offers a USB input for media file playback, and can handle all of the most popular file types including H.264/H.265 files in .MKV, .MOV, and .MP4 containers and VP9 (YouTube) in an .MKV container, meaning that's the only media recognized over USB and Plex' Direct Play. To copy DVD to Roku 4, you'll find it's difficult to do that since Roku 4 doesn't allow DVD videos to be added. Luckily, there is an easy workaround to fix the issue. Free Download or Purchase iFastime Video Converter Ultimate:
Step 1: Import DVD files
Insert your DVD disc into your DVD-ROM, run the DVD Ripper and click "Load file(s)" icon to load DVD movies. You can also import movies files from DVD folder, ISO.
Tips: Before start converting DVD, you can backup your DVD contend first. There are two options for you:
a. Backup DVD with original structures;
b. Copy movie only from DVD discs
Step 2. Select video format for Roku 4
Click the "Format" option, and choose MPEG4, MOV from Common Video profile list. If you want to keep 1080p resolution as source movie, you can choose HD Video > H.264 HD Video(*.mp4) for Roku 4/Plex Media Server. Or choose a TV compatible format if you want to directly watch DVD movies on TV.
Note: The output format is preferably in a common format, like MP3 for audio, MPEG-4 for video. The more common format you use, the more devices you can stream to. For example, if you use FLAC instead of MP3 for your music, you can't stream to your Xbox 360. Just keep in mind that not all devices support all formats of media.
Tip - Advanced Settings:
If you like, you can click "Settings" to change the video encoder, resolution, frame rate, etc. as you wish. Keep in mind the file size and video quality is based more on bitrate than resolution which means bitrate higher results in big file size, and lower visible quality loss, and vice versa.
Step 3: Start ripping DVD to play with Roku 4
Click "Start conversion" button under the preview window, and the DVD ripper will start the conversion from DVD movies to Roku 4. Once the conversion finished, get the ripped DVD files streaming to Roku's SD card or to a USB stick that can be attached to TV or other connected devices via Plex server for great enjoyment.
